Top 20 (Boys' Night)

Since I didn't feel like blogging about results, lemme tell you - I only got one elimination correct last week. So I'm not too pleased with who is around.

Alright - so anyway. For those not in the know, the boys are performing tonight because Crystal Bowersox from the girl group was hospitalized, and because those insipid corporate execs that run the show have been pimping the girl from audition day, they simply couldn't stand not to let her perform.

To switch it up a bit, Ellen and Randy have switched seats and Kara has borrowed Paula Abdul's hair.

*MICHAEL LYNCHE
He REALLY brought the theatrics for this one, and I like the song ("This is a Man's World") - but my only problem is probably with his diction. I know, it's a stylistic quality with music, but I always notice it. But all things considered, I liked this performance. It was very vocally sound and very personal and connected. They all talk about how much he's changed in a week, and I have to agree, because I actually like him now - I don't even REMEMBER him from last week.

*JOHN PARK
I'm actually very happy that he shares that English was his second language and that he lived in Korea - at least, there's a different aspect culturally. "Gravity" by John Mayer is a good song - it's more his level, but he's still trying too hard. He can't capture the John Mayer, "I don't give a crap" sort of attitude. He's a little boring, and takes himself too seriously.

*CASEY JAMES
A song with "history" on the show, hah. Bo Bice, Elliott, and Chris Richardson did NOT play guitar though. I LOVE me some Gavin DeGraw, so "I Don't Wanna Be" wins brownie points for me. He doesn't a deep or gruff enough voice for the song, though. It sounds a bit like whining, or bees buzzing in the first half - but he makes up for it in the second half. I actually agree with Kara - he was a good guitarist, not a frontman.

*ALEX LAMBERT
Two words. JOHN. LEGEND. Before they even let him sing, before the commercial break before his intro, even, the mention of Mr. Legend nearly made me jizz my pants. Whoops. Was that a little too much information? But anyway, here he is. And he would like you to know he isn't nauseous. I feel like such a pedophile because he's so CUTE! Anyway, "Everybody Knows" is such a good song. His voice is really good, and I LOVE the performance, but visually, I think he was a little stiff apart from the facial expressions. He Jason Mraz'd John Legend. :P

*TODRICK HALL
Sweetie, what is it with you and girl songs? Really now? Do you never learn? Another one of these people trying to do too many runs and taking themselves too seriously.

*JERMAINE SELLERS
I think his dino onesie was the first thing that differentiated him from Todrick, because I kept getting those two confused. He loves hearing himself speak more than hearing himself sing. And he's trying to rock the hairstyle popularized by Puck from Glee. Anyway, there's nothing heinously bad about it for me, but it's nothing special. I think the only think that I genuinely liked was his adlibbing and scatting.

*ANDREW GARCIA
Guitarless? Oh, the humanity! And - he's a breaker? Hah! There's something familiar to me, because I see it all the time around here. His diction bothers me and it's sort of whiny and nasally tonight. Nowhere close to being the worst of the night, but once his guitar is gone, I'm no longer enamored. I think there's still a chance to redeem him, but right now, he's not a favorite.

*AARON KELLY
His giggling and reserved...ness.. whatever you call it, I actually find it cute. Oh! And he's bobbing his head like a little chicken. His dancing is so awkward and Napoleon Dynamite, but I just can't help but root for him, because he can sing. It's just so cutesie and sort of generic. It works for pop music in any case, and that's what American Idol is pretty good at chugging out.

*TIM URBAN
Ah, the pretty boy. He enjoys the makeup process immensely, as we see. "Come on Get Higher" is very current, so it's not a good idea to draw that comparison right now. And his diction irks me sometimes, but he's better than last week. It's actually not heinously bad this week. Okay. I like him this week. Like in the way where... if you were a girl in high school and he was your boyfriend, would you not melt into a pool all over the floor? Simon agrees with me, it's an improvement.

*LEE DEWYZE
Lee seems like one of those cool guys that everyone wants to be around. And those eyes. And he's a pretty humble guy. And holy lawd, "Lips of An Angel" and those biceps and - erm. I spent the first half of the song want him to pick up the mic stand - but then he started making sexy eyes at the camera and I was like, dangit, DON'T MOVE! There were a lot of slip=ups, but it sounded natural, the way someone would perform with a band.

Anyway, my picks for the chopping block are Todrick/Jermaine (One of them or both) and John Park. It's an easy choice as far as I care.
