Top 24 (Girls Night)

First Girls' Night - and Simon says the season will belong to the Ladies.

I always have a love/hate relationship with the first voting week, because I don't know most of these people! And... Simon wants Ellen. Just a warning that this blog entry might not be complete, because I'm not particularly enthralled by any of these people.

*PAIGE MILES
Cheesy fire background right off the bat! And there's nothing remotely firey about this performance. Not a good opener. It doesn't even sound like her microphone is working properly. Simon thinks this girl has the best voice out of all the girls?

*ASHLEY RODRIGUEZ
This girl looks like a male-to-female transexual - and "Battlefield" really is not a very good song. She also sounds like she just finished sprinting a few laps before getting on stage. Is she actually singing? Or just... talk-singing? It was so anticlimactic, and just not good.

*JANELL WHEELER
Alright. I'm a little biased because I think this girl is gorgeous for real - she looks like a Caucasian version of Lara Quigaman, for any fellow TFC-watchers, and Lara is pretty much my hero. And I looooved her performance of "American Boy." Now as far as tonight, "What About Love" is one of my favorite songs. She's definitely not one of the strongest singers I've ever heard, this song is a HUGE song, and needs a huge voice. She has stage presence, though.

*LILLY SCOTT
Omg. It's a zombie. And this is a very strange performance. Maybe if I were stoned, it would make sense to me. It's very other-worldly, or something. It's possibly the most awkward performance I've seen on Idol. Ever. It's just strange. Bizarre. Ellen calls it "unique", and Simon calls it the best so far. I suppose it does have personality, but the type of personality it shows confuses me. She kept doing this sort of hoe-down thing with her shoulders. And her hair looks like my Barbie doll, after I took safety scissors and sharpies to her. Bizarre.

*KATELYNN EPPERLY
She's nineteen? She looks older then me! Eep! And... yet again, awkward. She looks like some sort of strange doll. Or a character out of a Tim Burton movie. She has the most dynamic voice so far, in any case, and sustained her notes better than any of the other girls, but it was...awkward. I will agree with Kara that she was better when she looked more natural.

*HAELEY VAUGHN
Mouth girl! And nose piercing? Yuck. Just yuck. This girl, I remember, and she scares me and annoys me all at once. And "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"? The arrangement would have been cool if it was sung by someone who was not screeching at me and staring uncomfortably at the camera. I think she's just screaming and getting a little too enthusiastic.

*LACEY BROWN
Her speaking voice is nasally, and raspy at the same time. It's sort of strange. She's much prettier without the thick eyeliner. Anyway, "Landslide" is a nice song - but I really, really dislike her voice. And the strange bobbing motion - this sounds a lot like the auditions where they let in really bad people so we can laugh at them. But her makeup is nice, anyway.

*MICHELLE DELAMOR
Girl loves listening to herself talk more than I I don't remember her at all from auditions or Hollywood Week, so they probably didn't show her much, if at all. I like how it started off without accompaniment, and I think she has the strongest voice so far (keep in my, this is me live blogging) and she's got phenomenal stage presence compared to most of the other girls. Could have done with fewer runs, but so far, the best for me!

*DIDI BENAMI
I remember thinking this girl was really natural and charming, and she's so emotional! And I love "The Way I Am" - this song is so her! I like her a lot, she has such a clean-sounding voice. She's just the sweetest thing, I swear. I do agree with Simon that she was a bit copy-cattish of Ingrid Michaelson, I'll give him that, but she does seem sweet.

*SIOBHAN MAGNUS
Awkward. Again. And lots of awkward staring. Not feeling it. That is all. I actually do like the song, like Simon, but I don't like the singer. She's just kinda blah.

*CRYSTAL BOWERSOX
"Mama needs a bigger paycheck." - Erik told me East Coast time that he liked this girl, and I must grudgingly agree. Super-talented, and reminiscent of the quirky performers you see at the train station. I'm not blown away musically or anything, but I'm very impressed by her talent and the fact that she can do so much. It was just gritty and natural and cool. Simon agrees that it's the sort of thing you see outside a subway station.

*KATIE STEVENS
I've heard 'Feeling Good" on this show so many times, mostly from boys, but she gets props for picking such a good song. And she has spunk! She deserves the pimping spot for the night - I've seen the song done with far more drama to it, but compared to almost everyone else tonight. Her voice isn't as clean and crisp sounding as some of the other girls, but I like this kind of music.

So who would I like to see leave on Thursday? I think I'd choose Haley and Lacey. Or Lilly. If I had my way, I'd chop them. In any case, if Simon's prediction comes true and this season goes to the ladies, then we have... very little hope. Tomorrow night, boys!
