American Idol Top 8

Baby pictures galore! Except Paula Abdul's picture isn't a baby. And Ryan liked carrots when he was a baby.

Anyway here's our Top 8 - doesn't that sound so MySpace? And for songs the year we were born, we'll start things off with old man Gokey!

Danny Gokey (1980) - This rendition of "Stand By Me" is a huge switchup from David Archuleta's last year. I liked the tempo change, it was pretty smooth. And his adlibs are good, really natural. I'm a big fan of Danny Gokey, he just seems like a real artist with his music, rather than a showbiz wannabe.

Kris Allen (1985) - Kris wanted to be a...taxicab driver. His diction is a little bit gargly, and I'm not familiar with this song, so I don't know if he's taking artistic liberties with it. It doesn't have the same oomph for me as previous weeks.

Lil Rounds (1984) - Tina Turner songs automatically mean showing leg. Sounds too much like the original, and Lil's voice is so cliche. The arrangement is boring, but is fit to her fairly stationary performing style. Hardly any actual vocal prowess shown, except at the very end note. It's like she thought, "Wow, that was mediocre - gotta throw in a money note!" Lil looks like she's about to kill Paula. And she's about to cry. She says she listens to the judges' advice, but she constantly ignores it.

Anoop Desai (1986) - GO HEELS! Anoop was almost my classmate. And good Anoop. Repent for being disrespectful to Kara. Anyway, born on the same day as David Cook. FORESHADOWING?! Probably not. I'm still not a fan of his attitude, but this performance is much cleaner and less pretentious. The tempo got a bit tedious, but other than that, passable.

Scott MacIntyre (1985) - Creepy Dracula Scott! With no piano? Say it ain't so - is he actually gonna play the guitar? Oh, yes he is! I like this song, actually. I'm not familiar with it. Someone remind me to find out who sings "The Search is Over." The vocals aren't as clean as some other contestants.

Allison Iraheta (1992) - The only '90s baby, how cute! She looks even older than me, too! And her mom took her to the doctor because she talked too much. "I Can't Make You Love Me" is on my list of great songs. The arrangement is fresh, pretty original, and I like the liberties she took with it. Okay. I really like this one. Except for the asymmetrical skirt. That's just ugly.

Matt Giraud (1985) - May I just say that Matt was SUCH a cute baby?! Anyway, 1985 is the most popular year so far. And busting out "Part Time Lover" - can you GET anymore perfect, Matt? At first, I thought the fedora was cheesy, but I love when he sings songs like these. It's seriously sexy, hee! Now, rush through the judges - we're running out of time!

Adam Lambert (1982) - Lambert in the pimp spot of the night, once again. Anyway, he was a such a cute baby, dressed like Phantom of the Opera! Those baby blues - it's so clear that he's gay, but I'm terribly entranced. Adam Lambert got a standing ovation. From Simon. I wasn't familiar with the song, and I think any other performer would have just seemed awkward, but that's what you can count on Adam for.
