American Idol Top 9

Ew, Dolly Parton, haha. She reminds me of a frog with humongous...assets. Haha. I managed a post this week!

Brooke White~
She's really pretty, haha. I kinda thought she was flat in the beginning, but I liked the folk vibe that she always have. I think I agreed with Simon that it lacked charisma and everything, but I don't think I can hold that against her. I like the song in general, though. Maybe because it sounds like something I'd listen to when Brooke sings it, and I like the story with the song. That's the things about Brooke, even if she doesn't blow me out of the water vocally, I always love the songs she picks.

David Cook~
He changed his hair! Haha, now I can actually really really like him, because it was the hair that bothered me. I'm a happy camper. He's good as usual, though I'm not sure I liked this one better than any of his others - nothing tops "Hello". I liked the falsetto, though I thought the first time he hit the note, it wasn't quite right.

Ramiele Malubay~
Haha, wow. She *is* small, haha. Anyways, I thought the song was cute, though maybe a little awkward in the beginning while she was still starting up. Still, I disagree with Simon, because this was Ramiele's most lively performance so far. I'm glad she's coming into her own as a performer - I wanna see her change things up a little, maybe sing a song that involves a switch in tempo, or a jump in octave. So far she hasn't done anything too dramatic.

Jason Castro~
Aw, poor Jason has a stalker - I feel bad for him. I know how he feels. But at least his stalker seems nice. Doesn't call him a fat whore, haha. Anyways, I actually kinda liked this performance, but Simon obviously didn't. It was a nice pick-me-up of a song, and I don't think he was breaking out, it actually seemed quite fitting. I can sort of agree with Simon that a lot of times, it seems like he's singing the same song over and over again, but...he's just so pretty! Haha.

Carly Smithson~
I don't like something about the tone of her voice - it's really strong, but there's this nasally tone to it. Speaking of nasal, looking at her nose annoys me. She sounded pretty good, but I really think her appearance is distracting. I can't even really say much about her because I can't really
help but tune her out when she sings because she just bothers me, and regardless of her talent, I can't bring myself to call someone I can't even stand to look at my American Idol.

David Archuleta~
I love how Dolly liked him so much that she had trouble keeping her fake lashes in. I agree, he really feels this song - I've actually never heard it before, but I like it now, haha. It doesn't sound too country-ish when he sings it, though. I agree, he's way better than Carly. Best performance of the night! Like Simon said, on the money. I'm glad he's back to positive comments from the judges, he had a couple off-weeks where it was kinda hard to connect, but this week, I think you could see it in his face that the song really did matter to him. And his daddy didn't pick it, haha.

Kristy Lee Cook~
well, she should feel quite at home, haha. Didn't Simon say she sounded like Dolly Parton on helium anyway? She really fit into the genre, but it didn't seem like she made it her own the way the others did, because this IS her genre. Like, remember Josh Gracin in country week, season 2? He was horrible and mundane, and that was supposed to be his niche. I'm not saying she's horrible, she's actually pretty good, and I like the song. Pleasant but forgettable seems like an appropriate description.

Syesha Mercado~
Urgh, it just seems like this is so cliche, and she's making a conscious effort to be a cliche diva. Plus the stage lighting just calls up memories of Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard. I like the way she simplified it, but "joy" kinda gave me a little twitch. I kinda wish she'd gotten up off of the piano. Except for the really big notes at the end, the whole performance seemed sort of simpering and yawny. I agree with Simon that it wasn't fantastic.

Michael Johns~
He didn't sound too great while he was practicing - but I like him, he's sort of a white boy Ray Charles. He sounds better singing onstage, but now, what's that thing around his neck? He looks like Freddy from Scooby Doo, haha. The song just seems so risque and suggestive - and his posture with how he's stradling the mic stand is just...sexual. Haha. Enough of that. It actually was nice, he actually qualifies as a hottie with that one.

So basically, tonight, the highlights were Ramiele's hopping around, David Archuleta's entire performance, and David Cook's new haircut. Not bad! I think either Kristy or (gasp) Jason is going to leave. Or Carly. I'd like that, haha.
