American Idol - Top 7

Okay, first of all - I don't like Mariah Carey and I think she's overrated. She has some catchy songs, like "Touch My Body" - but her face annoys the heck out of me, and I wish she'd try with an actualy melody for once, the runs are distracting.

David Archuleta~"Meeting Mariah Carey was really scary." I have a special place in my heart for this song - "When You Believe." He's pretty cute tonight...did I just say that? I feel like such a pedophile. Anyway, I wish he'd done more of the actual words than the ad-libs, but the ending was amazing.

Carly Smithson~Okay, I'm not going to look at her while she's singing so the fact that I hate her face does not distract me. But ugh, Kelly did this song Season 1, and Carly doesn't compare. And I couldn't help but look - why does she always look mad?

Syesha Mercado~I don't know this song. She annoyed me by stealing Ramiele's "Oohh no!". I'm not thrilled, she's just so overconfident - especially considering the fact that her runs were mediocre, except for the really long run on the last "vanishing," which I actually really liked. I just think she's sort of "eh."

Brooke White~Poor girl, missed her sister's wedding - and "Hero" is pretty much my beloved karaoke songs. Yay for the piano - I like how it really felt distinct from the Mariah version without being totally weird. I really liked the rasp to her voice on "hold on." Still, it just never really picked up, and the tempo kinda just stayed level the whole time, so while I liked the sound of it, I didn't really get hooked. Simon's hamburger analogy worked well - missing the condiments.

Kristy Lee Cook~BAAAAAAA. Haha, I swear, her vibratto bothers me more than Christina Christian from Season 1. The song just seemed sort of cheesy coming from her and she does the weird foghorn thing I hated from Asia'h Epperson - though Kristy only did it a couple times. It was actually a pretty good performance tonight, though I agree with Simon when he called it "whiny."

David Cook~"Always Be My Baby" for him was really surprising, but then again, he has a way of taking the most unexpected songs and making them work - I actually like his version better than the original, because well, I don't like Mariah. He actually made me lose my breath with this performance, I was literally amazed. Gah. He better come out with a CD - with plenty of covers of songs. And aww, he's crying!

Jason Castro~It was really relaxing - isn't that what I always say about Jason? Anyway, I think he's starting to feel more comfortable, after his compliments from the judges last week, because he isn't holding back as much. Go Jason!

In conclusion, Carly should go bye-bye.
