American Idol Top 12

Woo, live and in-studio! I swear, I feel so old. I remember the first season of American Idol - remember Ryan Starr? I'm so totally straight, but she's incredibly hot, haha. Man, that was middle school too. And I still watch American Idol religiously. Awesome possum.

Syesha Mercado ~
I don't know, she's a great singer, and she seems really nice and all, but I'm sort of tired of her. I mean, I was charmed out of my wits by her in Hollywood week when she lost her voice and had to write on a notepad so she could preserve it for her performance, but now, she just seems so generic. She's one of the most forgettable of the bunch if you ask me. And that hairstyle is the cheesiest thing I've ever seen, for some odd reason.

Chikezie ~
I agree with Randy, so "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?". I actually like him as a singer but he's just not charming, and I can't seem to take him in as one of my favorites. But I'll admit, he was amazing this week, I'll give him that. I think if he makes it, he'll grow on me.

Ramiele Malubay ~
She doesn't really have a big voice compared to a lot of Filipinas I know, but I gotta feel for her because she's gorgeous, she's Filipina, and regardless of the fact that she's not big on the big belting types of songs, she's good. I'm voting for her tonight, no doubt of it. I just wanna see more power from her.

Jason Castro ~
Guitar boy. He looks so much like John Travolta, except...with dreds. I'm not a fan of the dreds at all. He kinda makes me think of John Mayer/Ryan Cabrera-esque singers - I feel like he's sorta a fish out of water though, because for lack of a better description, he's not really a real competition singer. His voice is extremely emotive, and it's relaxive, but as far as sheer power? Nada.

((sidenote: I want to watch 21 really bad, that looks like an AMAZING movie))

Carly Smithson ~
Okay, I'll be frank. I literaly do not like her face, it annoys me. And her tattoo that encompasses her entire arm makes me sick, and I don't want to look at the TV - the whole point of it being reality TV as opposed to reality radio means there needs to be an aesthetic level too. I mean, even recording artists need cover art. Okay, back to the singing - she has a strong voice, but I think her rocking/screaming belt is like nails on a chalkboard, she's just too much.

David Cook ~
Poor guy. I was watching E! News before American Idol and they were capping on because he sorta looks like he's losing hair in the section he combs hair over. I dig the popped collar, hee! I lik his voice a lot, even if it was a bit slurry. But then again, I have a thing about over-enunciating at times, so that might just be me. I actually didn't like this song quite as much, but I've liked all his others. "Hello" was amazing.

Brooke White ~
She's such a nice girl, she sort of reminds me of Kate Hudson with a small-town charm. "Let It Be" seems like a good song from her. She seems like a really classy girl, and I actually really like her, but at the same time, she seems too nice, and I'd hate to see her corrupted by Hollywood. She's just so talented, and cultured. She's sort of like America's Sweetheart as opposed to an American Idol.

(I wanna watch Stop-Loss too, I've been intrigued since I first heard about it, waaaaaay back last year. I'd probably get really emotional watching it though.)

David Hernandez ~
STRIPPER MAN! Pizza-bistro. Right. LMAO. I'm sorry, ever since my mom pointed out the way his eyebrows jump like kangaroos, I just can't ignore it. He had problems with some of the low notes, but he really knows how to work a crowd. I guess that stripper experience really pays off. Haha. "Corny, verging on desperate". Go Simon. "RABBIT in the headlights," though. That was hilarious.

Amanda Overmyer ~
Her hair actually literally pisses me off, but she has a really pretty face. I really like the original version of the song she sang - but if this was the first time I'd heard that, I wouldn't have understood a word of what she was singing. A big part of music is the message, and if you can't even understand what a singer is even singing, you've lost a lot of the value in the music. I wasn't thrilled by her. Simon called her a "breath of fresh air" - which I can't relate to, because it sounds like her lungs are pretty smoky.

Michael Johns ~
My pretty Aussie! I kinda keep noticing the way his forehead wrinkles a bit too much, but he has a really classic guy voice, really emotive. He's actually really simple, which could theoretically work for or against him.

Kristy Lee Cook ~
Well, obviously, every season needs its tall skinny pretty girl with big boobs. Her singing's been a bit watered down and cheesy. Now, she wins the prize for cheesy. Chikezie managed to have a believable performance in "O Brother Where Art Thou" style, but this is a straight up, Ashlee Simpson lip-syncing on SNL Hoedown. Oh god, I literally cracked up laughing, and not in an appreciative way. Everyone seems to be thinking "Did Paula just say that?!". And...thank you Simon Cowell for introducing us to Dolly Parton on helium at a country fair. If she makes it after that, then I think her fans are deaf.

David Archuleta ~
Aww, it's the sweetie! Save the best for last, haha. He's only a junior in high school - perfect age for my cousin, Hazael, who thinks he's amazingly cute. He's such a cutie, though, I don't bame her at all. Poor guy's a little nervous this week, had a little slip-up with the words. I can see it on his face. But it doesn't make him any less amazing - a couple are closing the gap with him, but he's still a major favorite. I like him better with slow songs. He can deliver, though. He'll be back, no doubt.

Off to go vote, and I think it's obvious who I'm voting for. =)
