I actually really like the idea of the judges' save - I see it being used on Adam Lambert at some point in the future, but that's just a wild guess.
The group number was cute - I think they're all more seasoned with stage performance than back when the show first started. At the top 12 stage in season 1, I'm pretty sure that the finalists' stage presence wasn't quite as developped.
The Ford music videos have got way more high tech - and now, it's all about the Ford Fusion, not the Ford Focus!
So Jasmine Murray is the first victim - and I can't say I'm not glad. I'm sitting here thinking, don't waste a dramatic save on her. First of all, she's not good enough. Second, it will do nothing for ratings to save her. Third, with voice lessons under my belt now, I can pick out the things that are wrong with her technique. I'm not saying I could do better, but plenty of people on the show DO.
And thankfully, the save is not wasted on her. I feel bad for her, it must be emotional to be the first one eliminated. Seacrest is being incredibly nice to her, it's cute. I've personally never liked her very much. I think they wasted a Wild Card spot on her. Her spot in the Wild Card round to begin with should have gone to Alex Wagner-Trugman or Kristin MacNamara
Now, we have a performance from the severely overhyped, synthesized Kanye West. I'm fond of a couple of his songs, but I'm not a huge fan of his in general.
And idol alum Kelly clarkson is back - will they bring back Ruben Studdard next week? Has Ruben Studdard ever come out with anything since 2004?
I really like "My Life Would Suck Without You" - and I miss having people like Kelly on the show. She's improved so much, but I still see her in a tie and hat singing "Natural Woman" or chugging through "I Surrender" even when she was losing her voice.
And Jorge is taking the long flight home to Puerto Rico. He had a lot of potential. I like him more than Jasmine Murray, in any case, but I still agree with ousting him. I'm touched that he's taking it gracefully.
Now, what's the theme for next week?
