"Made of Honor" [Spoiler Warning]

I opted out of seeing "Iron Man" out of a deep dislike of Gwyneth Paltrow - while both had the same opening day, I was glad that there was no sweltering crowd to go see "Made of Honor."

I genuinely believe that Patrick Dempsey is the new Romcom king - he was incredibly charming in this movie, and is surprisingly good at the physical humor. He seems very at home playing charming city guys in New York - Enchanted, Sweet Home Alabama, and now Maid of Honor.

In the opening party scene, I (as an Obama camper) really appreciated the "Monica, Monica, Monica - OH, HILARY!" moment. I really enjoyed the way that the movie spent a formidable amount of time fleshing out the relationship between Tom & Hannah, especially as best friends in the the present.

"Made of Honor" seems a lot more realistic than most romantic comedies, especially with the way Tom comes to realize that he has feelings for his best friend because of the advice of his only married buddy.

I think one of the more touching moments in the movie is when Tom is walking through the park and comes across an old couple, still very much in love and going for a boatride together on the lake. He doesn't have any lengthy soliloquys about how he feels, but the thoughts just seem to spring out in droves from Dempsey's eyes.

I laughed out loud at the humor, particularly the jabs at Tom's "mini-kilt," and at traditional Scottish names. Also (major spoiler here), I love that Tom gets his girl in the end, because he knows her so much better, and is so much better for her. As Hannah says to her would-be husband, "You're the perfect guy - you're just not the perfect guy for me."

It seems to allude very much to the way Patrick Dempsey's character was jilted in "Sweet Home Alabama," except in "Made of Honor," the rejected groom receives it with much less dignity.

So basically, it was a well-made and well-filmed, feel-good movie, and I'll definitely want this one on DVD.
