Insecurities

I know that every girl has insecurities of some sort, and different girls act on them in different ways.

The sad truth nowadays is that sometimes, this world confuses young women to the point that insecurities take over. Girls are insecure about their looks, girls are insecure about their brains, girls are even insecure about their insecurities. And sadly enough, one of the effects of these insecurities is a harbored hatred between girls for things that really can't be helped.

People place so much false value on appearances or reputations, it's easy to see where a girl could get confused. It becomes a defense mechanism to pump up one's own ego - this is where girls nowadays get off on acting skanky, bragging about how they think they're better than everyone else - they need it in order to function.

True, there are girls out there who are merely pretty and are aware of that, but those girls are the ones who are comfortable recognizing the strengths in others, not pointing out their flaws. A girl who is self-secure can admit that another girl is beautiful without chipping away at her own self-worth.

What I'm talking about is THAT GIRL - the one who retorts at anything by calling other girls ugly, or calling them geeks. The one who touts her looks and her 'reputation' above everybody else. And it confuses THAT GIRL when calling someone ugly or a geek, and that person isn't broken by it. THAT GIRL can't grasp it, because they can't understand that there's anything more than flaunting their bodies or attracting the best (or most) potential mates. We're not chimps anymore, after all.

The girl who can dig in her heels and hold her head high despite being called ugly or a geek, in my honest opinion, is the one who possesses real beauty. The girl who thinks that it should be earth-shattering to call someone ugly is a girl who obviously sees physical appearance as the only thing of value in herself, and so, I would pity her.

"People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."
-Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
